The chicken drumstick is the portion that sells itself: one bone-in piece, easy to cook, with a predictable weight. The difference between a shop and a kitchen is not what they buy but the format they buy it in: a chilled tray goes straight onto the shelf, while a frozen bag or bulk pack keeps a kitchen stocked for a week. In our wholesale chicken catalogue, Qualiko drumsticks come in three formats; below is who each one is for.
Which drumstick formats are in the catalogue?
- Chilled, in 0.9 kg trays — “Chicken drumsticks Qualiko, chilled, 0.9 kg trays (7.2 kg case)”: eight trays to a case.
- Frozen, in 0.9 kg bags — “Chicken drumsticks Qualiko, frozen”, with 12 bags in a 10.8 kg case.
- Frozen, in bulk — the same product, packed in 2.5 kg packs, in cases of 10–15 kg.
The frozen drumsticks are individually frozen: the pieces do not form a block and can be taken out one at a time. The price per kilogram can differ between the 0.9 kg bag and the 2.5 kg pack, so it is worth saying exactly which format you want when you order.
For the shop shelf: tray or bag?
If you have a fresh-meat counter, the chilled 0.9 kg tray is the simplest format: it leaves the shelf exactly as it arrived, with no weighing and no repacking. It does, however, need fast turnover, so order only what you will sell before the date on the label. All fresh chicken items are gathered on the chilled chicken wholesale page.
For the shop freezer, the 0.9 kg bag does the same job with a long shelf life: the customer takes one bag, and the shop keeps the rest of the case at −18 °C. A shop that wants both options can put a few chilled cases for the counter and a few frozen cases for stock into the same order.
For the kitchen: the 0.9 kg bag or the 2.5 kg bulk pack?
Bulk is the kitchen format: whole trays of drumsticks in the oven, portions for a canteen lunch, children’s menus. A 2.5 kg pack is opened and used up within the same shift. The 0.9 kg bag makes sense in small kitchens, or where you cook drumsticks only a few days a week: you thaw one bag, not a whole case.
In both cases, thaw in the fridge, and never refreeze anything that has been thawed. The difference between individual freezing and block freezing, with the advantages of each, is explained in our article IQF or block-frozen. The full frozen range is on the frozen chicken wholesale page.
When are legs or leg quarters a better choice than drumsticks?
The drumstick is the small, uniform portion. If your menu calls for a bigger piece on the plate, look at the other leg formats as well:
- The whole leg (drumstick plus thigh) — “Chicken legs Qualiko, dry-frozen (IQF), 14 kg”, plus the “superior grade” version, sorted more strictly, with more uniform pieces, for counters and menus where appearance matters.
- The leg quarter (the leg with part of the back attached) — “Chicken leg quarters Qualiko, block-frozen (monolith), 10 kg”: the whole block is thawed at once, so it suits kitchens that cook the entire volume in one go — canteens and event catering.
What each part is called, and where one ends and the next begins, is set out in our guide to chicken cuts.
What to check on delivery
For chilled drumsticks: the temperature at unloading, intact trays and the date on the label. For frozen ones: the pieces should be separate; if they have fused into a block, or there is a lot of ice in the bag, the goods have warmed up in transit. Note any problem on the spot, in front of the driver.
How to work out how many cases you need
- Set the raw portion weight (for example, two drumsticks per portion) and the number of portions you serve per week.
- Weigh one bag or one tray once and count the pieces: this tells you how many portions you get from 0.9 kg or from 2.5 kg at the size you receive.
- Divide your weekly requirement by the weight of the case: 7.2 kg for chilled, 10.8 kg for bags, 10–15 kg for bulk.
- Round up, and make up the 70 kg with other items you need anyway.

Frequently asked questions
Is a drumstick the same as the lower leg?
Yes. The drumstick is the lower part of the chicken leg; kitchens also call it the lower leg or simply the “leg piece”. In the catalogue it is listed as “Chicken drumsticks”, chilled and frozen.
Are the frozen drumsticks stuck together in a block?
No. Frozen Qualiko chicken drumsticks are individually frozen, so the pieces stay separate and you take out of the bag or the case only what you are going to cook.
Can I buy just one case of drumsticks?
The minimum order is 70 kg, but it does not all have to be drumsticks: the 70 kg can be made up of several chicken, pork or convenience items in the same delivery.
How much do wholesale chicken drumsticks cost?
The price is per kilogram, VAT included, and it differs by pack size. Where a product page shows a wholesale price, it is indicative and carries the date it was updated; the final price and stock are confirmed by our sales agent before delivery.
