Qualiko chickens outdoors on grass

Our chickens
grow with love and care

Healthy poultry is the first step towards quality, safe food production.

Recognising the importance of corporate social responsibility, MHP and the Qualiko brand implement and maintain humane animal treatment across all our facilities.

The humane animal treatment policy, drawn up in line with local and European regulations, rests on the following points:

Quality feed

The animals receive compound feed whose raw materials are grown at MHP facilities. This ensures feed quality control. In addition, the animals always have as much fresh drinking water as they need.

Comfortable living conditions

We provide a rearing environment with a proper microclimate and enough space for free movement.

Health safety

MHP's guiding policy is that prevention is better than cure. That is why the animals are always supervised by competent specialists, receive preventive vaccinations and, when necessary, prompt treatment.

Qualified staff

Veterinary supervision of the poultry is provided exclusively by professional specialists with the required level of competence.

We follow regulations based on international standards, doing everything possible to eliminate the risk of injury, fear and stress in animals. All employees working with poultry have been trained by Ukraine's competent regulatory authority — the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection — and hold certificates confirming their knowledge of humane animal treatment.

MHP shares the GLOBAL S.L.P. standards

Taking into account — and this is a key difference — the safety of the entire production cycle, including stocking density and other aspects of animal welfare, biosecurity, environmental protection and employee wellbeing.

Birds are monitored from one day old

Day after day, zootechnical inspection specialists check bedding quality, the microclimate of the poultry house, feed and water availability and the animals' general condition. Lagging birds (developmental delays, weakness, signs of injury, lameness or natural wounds, etc.) are removed from the flock humanely.

Strict control of Salmonella bacteria is enforced at MHP's poultry rearing and housing facilities. Standardised measures have been implemented to prevent and rule out the occurrence of Salmonella:

  • compliance with biosecurity requirements;
  • pest control;
  • control of incoming raw materials;
  • personal hygiene of staff;
  • management of waste and animal by-products;
  • washing and disinfection of poultry houses, hatcheries, the complexes' slaughter and processing halls, production, refrigeration and storage facilities, recyclable polymer containers, vehicles and so on — with constant laboratory quality control of these activities.

No acts of violence or abuse are permitted when catching birds for transport or slaughter. Animal-welfare inspectors make sure the procedure takes place when the birds are calm, clean and at rest. Conditions are carefully monitored during transport to reduce the possibility of stress and suffering.

MHP has implemented a feedback procedure between slaughterhouses and poultry farms to assess bird welfare during rearing and transport. Slaughterhouses are governed by clear key performance indicators (KPIs) on health and welfare and on damage or injury to birds during catching and transport. Farms are assessed against these KPIs, and in case of non-compliance we launch a corporate investigation to identify the causes.

Continuous monitoring ensures the animals are treated humanely at every stage of production, eliminating the risk of cruelty.
